Sarah Berkman is a community herbalist, birth doula, aromatherapist and owner of Gather. She spends her time gardening, supporting mothers in labor, gathering wild plants, and concocting creative, healing herbal preparations for people in her community. All of her herbal adventures are accompanied by her curious and adventurous 6 year old daughter, Luna.
Having grown up in New England, Sarah carries with her the energy of the sea and the influence of her Italian grandmothers and heritage. She has been enchanted by the plant world since childhood and it is from the deepest place in her heart that she does this work.
Sarah apprenticed with Herbalist and Aromatherapist, Kathi Keville focusing on traditional western herbalism and plants of the Sierra Nevadas as well as levels 1, 2 and 3 of clinical aromatherapy. She has studied at the California School Of Herbal Studies in Forestville , CA completing her clinical herbalist training and studying the art of medicine making and formulation, materia medica, herbal energetics, pulse and tongue assessment, first aid, ayurveda, and body systems.
Sarah has taught many classes on the subject of herbal medicine in women’s health, natural self-care, and medicine making. She continues to build experience working with the people in her community. Currently, she is working towards AHG professional membership.
Sarah’s work as a doula has inspired her focus on women and children’s health. She has been successful in working with a variety of women’s health conditions including, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, PCOS, endometriosis, postpartum depression, pregnancy discomforts, infertility and more.
With the state of our current health care system and the methods of “healing” that have become popularized and mainstreamed, Sarah looks to the plants and strives to help reclaim once common knowledge of natural self care within our communities.
